Reminder! Join the PTA Board/SLT

Dear Fellow Parents,

We are all committed to helping our children to be happy and successful at school – and research shows that children do better academically and gain self-esteem when their parents are involved both at home and at school. One of the greatest ways to be involved at The Academy for Excellence through the Arts/PS303Q is to become an active member of our PTA Board.

The PTA Nominating Committee is currently seeking nominations for PTA Board positions as well as for members of the School Leadership Team (SLT) for the 2016-2017 school year. The PTA positions have one year terms and will be held from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. The 1 SLT positions have a two year term and will be held from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2018.

The positions are described on the back of this flyer. Please take a look and consider nominating yourself or someone else to the PTA Board.

If you would like to nominate a candidate, or if you are interested in one of the positions described below, please send an e-mail to RPCabonargi@gmail.com, Judyerna@msn.com, or N.Jacob80@gmail.com by April 20th. Elections will be conducted during the May 5th PTA meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Each candidate will be given the opportunity to speak before the election if they choose.

We hope you will consider becoming an active Board member of the PTA. Thank you for helping all of our children have the best early education experience possible.

Sincerely,

Rebekah Cabonargi, Judy Bruemmer, and Naresh Jacob

School Leadership Team Estimated time commitment: 1 hour per month

In December 1996, amendments to the New York State Education Law required the Chancellor to take steps to ensure that SLTs were in place in every New York City Public School. SLTs play a significant role in creating a structure for school-based decision making and shaping the path to a collaborative school culture. SLTs are a vehicle for developing school-based educational policies and ensuring that resources are aligned to implement those policies. Functioning in a collaborative manner, SLTs assist in the evaluation and assessment of a school’s educational programs and their effect on student achievement.

Meetings are conducted monthly at 7:15 am at AEA/PS303. SLT representatives (consisting of six parents and six teachers) attend all meetings and communicate the proceedings to the PTA.

If you have any questions about any of the positions, please feel free to contact Rebekah: RPCabonargi@gmail.com, Judy: Judyerna@msn.com, or Naresh: N.Jacob80@gmail.com.
