As most of you know, our school will be expanding to add grades 4 and 5 and to add two additional classes to existing grades Pre-K through 3. We were informed of this plan last spring and we were given a projected completion date of September of 2018.
Unfortunately last night we became aware of some unfortunate news. Due to unforseen prep work, the School Construction Authority (SCA) has changed the anticipated date to September of 2019. AEA’s administration, staff, and PTA Board were all blindsided by this news. We are all terribly disappointed and truly devastated for those families who were counting on the completion of the project in 2018.
We encourage all of you to fight for the DOE and the SCA to prioritize this project. Perhaps if we band together as a community to express the importance of this school to our families and to our neighborhood, our voices will be heard. Not only do our families wish to stay in our school for 4th and 5th grades, but our community would greatly benefit from the additional classrooms to help alleviate overcrowding in our surrounding schools and the lack of adequate seats for UPK.
This is all we know at this time. As any more information becomes available to us, we will most certainly relay it to you. For now, please consider making a phone call, writing a letter, or sending an email to some pivotal people that we need on our team.
